Cocaine Addiction Treatment
Cocaine drug treatment can be a tough thing to find especially when looking for a long term drug rehab. At Drug Rehab Services we have researched cocaine treatment and refer people to various drug rehabs that specialize in cocaine addiction. A drug rehab program should be at least 90 days and offer a natural detox, counseling, and life skills therapy.
One of the most effective forms of cocaine treatment is a program that uses a sauna detoxification that removes the cocaine out of the tissues of the body. This eliminates the cravings for the drug, which then allows for the person to focus on the underlying issues. The cognitive counseling gets to the core issues but focuses on the person taking responsibility for his actions. Then the final phase of the cocaine treatment is life skills therapy, which teaches a person how to live life again drug free.
What is cocaine?
Pure cocaine was first extracted from the leaf of the Erythroxylon coca bush, which grows mainly in Peru and Bolivia in central america, in the middle of the 19th century. In the early 1900s, it became the main stimulant substance used in most of the tonics/elixirs that were developed to treat a large variety of illnesses. Today, cocaine is a Schedule II drug, that means it has high potential for abuse and addiction, but can be administered by a doctor for legitimate medical usages, such as a local anesthetic for some eye, ear, and throat surgeries.
There are mainly two chemical forms of cocaine: the hydrochloride salt (HCL) and the "freebase." The hydrochloride salt, or powdered form of cocaine, dissolves in water and, when abused, can be administered intravenously (by vein) or intranasally (by the nose). Freebase refers to a compound that has not been neutralized by an acid to make the hydrochloride salt. The freebase form of the coke is smokable.
Cocaine is usually sold on the street as a fine, white, crystalline powder, known as "coke," "C," "snow," "flake," or "blow." Street drug dealers usually dilute it with such inert substances as cornstarch, talcum powder, and/or sugar, or with active substances as procaine (a chemically-related local anesthetic) or with such other stimulants as amphetamines.

How is it used?
It is inhaled (snorted) or injected. Cocaine is also smoked through a process called freebasing where the drug is converted to an alkaloid form. Cocaine hydrochloride cannot be smoked, since the substance is destroyed at elevated temperatures. Crack is an extremely pure form of freebase cocaine sold in the form of small crystals or rocks. It is smoked in pipes or in cigarettes, mixed with tobacco or cannabis. Crack has seldom been available in Australia. Like other illicitly produced drugs, such as speed, there are no controls on factors such as the strength and hygiene of cocaine. Cocaine might be mixed, or cut, with other substances like sugar, baking soda and talcum powder to raise profits. This increases the chance of experiencing dangerous or unpleasant effects. Cocaine was utilized as a local anaesthetic for eye, ear and throat surgery. Lately, it has been replaced with synthetic anaesthetics (e.g. lidocaine), but it continues to have limited use in certain surgical procedures.
