How Addiction Affects The Entire Family
Monday, May 26th, 2008Our family was, to me, a very healthy traditional one. Then our world was turned upside down. We are a family of five. We have three children, one daughter and two sons. Life, of course, has its ups and downs, but nothing could compare to the heartache of knowing our youngest was abusing drugs. At first you deny the obvious, while everything points to the truths of addiction. Our daughter, the eldest, tried to tell us, but somehow we just couldn’t face the reality. She became so angry with her brother. Finally we were confronted by a very good friend of our son. It was such a relief to accept what was happening and do something constructive about it. Easier said then done – finding the best drug rehab program would be somewhat of an obstacle. Where does one turn? After out-patient rehab, which was unsuccessful I went on line and found a long term drug rehab. Our family is thankful for the wonderful and caring staff and we have our son, brother, and uncle back.
