New York Drug Rehab

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

A New York drug rehab is not easy to find especially because of the overflow of people needing help with addiction treatment. New York City alone is enough to keep most New York facilities at a full residential status. Many people end up leaving the state anyways to find a nice therapeutic environment. One of the first forms of treatment is changing a person’s environment so leaving the state is actually a good thing to do. Most drug rehabs in the northeast are either hospital facilities or psychiatric based programs which only subscribe more drugs and use what is called replacement drug therapy. Replacement drug therapy is a fancy way of saying we are going to substitute one drug for another which we highly do not suggest or recommend under any circumstance unless used for a medical detox.

In order to be effective, a drug rehab in New York should provide detox, biophysical treatment, life skills therapy, and cognitive counseling. If the facility does not provide these things than you should begin to look other places. A longer termed program is always more successful. Four to six month long drug rehabs are a good length which gives enough time to handle all aspects of addiction and then teach a person how to live life again without drugs.

Don’t get discouraged when researching New York drug treatment. Remember that all the facilities are different and you very well might have to leave the state to find something that you like.
