Prescription drug addiction like painkillers is now a problem for medical professionals offering treatment. Prescription painkillers were the most abused drug last year in Alaska. Oxycontin prescription drugs are not only a problem in Alaska but all over the United States Alaskan law officials are currently trying to create a new law to assist in reducing “doctor shopping” by implementing a Prescription Monitoring Program (PCP). Legislation is taking longer than most expected but it is in the process of being reviewed. Though this will help a bit with the problem and the ability to access the drug, what will really help this situation is effective treatment. It is obvious the need in Alaska for effective long term rehabilitation.
The use in heroin in Alaska has increased causing more need for a successful drug rehab treatment centers. Black tar heroin is available in most cities in Alaska but has now found affluent suburban areas. Most families have trouble finding effective Alaska drug rehab that not only offers medical detox but quality rehabilitation as well. Remember the longer the treatment program the better.
