Methadone Addiction Drug Treatment

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

The use of Methadone treatment for opiate addicts could hardly be called “treatment.” Rather, it is a cover-up and a quick fix. This mode of thinking (which truthfully is just replacing one drug for another; one addiction for another) doesn’t even give the addict an opportunity at freedom from his dependency. This recovery strategy is pessimistic, and I encourage everyone to give themselves or their loved one’s a little more faith than this. Give addicts the opportunity and the support they need to have success in an abstinence-based, drug-free approach to recovery.

In treating Methadone addiction, a medical detox is the first step. This can take days, and up to weeks depending on the dosage the person is on. Finding the right type of medical detox is vital. Once a person has been detoxed than locating an effective addiction treatment program is the next step. Most drug rehabs provide a detox which makes it easier because the methadone addict does not have to leave the facility.

What Type Of Drug Treatment?

When searching for a drug treatment center there are several different factors to consider. In this blog I will cover the important issues that a person suffering from drug and alcohol addiction need to remember. The top three factors are addiction treatment program must have are detox, counseling, and long term care.

The first thing that a drug treatment center must offer is a medical detox. When a person is addicted to certain drugs and alcohol, coming off of them cold turkey can cause a medical disaster. The first thing that a person needs to realize is that not all drugs require a medical detox so if a treatment center is trying to sell you detox make sure that it is medically necessary. If you do need a medical detox than make sure that not only do they have a good medical staff but also provide daily intake of vitamins, minerals and various supplements to help the body to recover faster.

Once the medical treatment has taken place, the next step is the program to address the underlying issues of what caused a person to be addicted to drugs and alcohol. Drug treatment counseling should be individualized and result based. Counseling is important that its not done in a group setting. The reason for this is most people suffering from addiction don’t want to discuss their problems in a group setting.

Last but not least, it’s important that the rehab offers long-term drug treatment. Long term drug rehab facility ensures a better chance of recovery.
