Effective Drug Education

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

There is much attention on drug rehabilitation these days, with reality TV shows, and celebrities making front page news on their enrollment into a private drug rehab. What many people don’t realize is drug and alcohol rehabilitation is reactive rather than proactive and a much more costly solution to eliminating an addiction problem. So what would be the proactive approach for drug and alcohol addiction?

Drug prevention and drug education are the two most important solutions for ending addiction. Educating people on the truth about drugs keeps people away from ever falling victim to addiction and gives them the proper information so that they can make good choices. You can’t scare a person from doing drugs, nor can you tell a person not to do them either. The only effective form of prevention is giving them the facts about the physical, mental and emotional aspects that drugs and alcohol cause.

Not to mention that a good drug rehab should also provide a drug education program so that the people while getting treatment learn about what drugs and alcohol do to a person.

Drug Rehab In New York

Monday, March 9th, 2009

New York drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs should provide effective type of treatment settings. These types of treatment programs should always include inpatient, long term rehabs, individualized and result based. New York alcohol rehabs should provide quality counseling and a medically supervised detox. A medical detox in a hospital is not always an optimum solution for a person coming off of alcohol but sometimes that is the only detox that has beds available.
Once a person has been properly detoxed than finding the right type of addiction treatment program is next. Programs that are not inpatient drug rehabilitation programs are not highly recommended because then a person stays at home and is constantly reminded of drugs and alcohol from friends and family.

A New York drug rehab is the most effective type rehab because the addicted individual lives in the facility until he is fully rehabilitated.

Stay away from programs that all they do is just prescribe drugs. These replacement drug programs do not work and can cause a bigger problem than actually help. Remember finding an effective drug rehab in New York is very important if you have a loved one addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Non 12 Step Rehab

Alternative drug rehab programs are generally the most effect in terms of fully getting a person either off of drugs or alcohol. Traditional types of rehabs like 12 step programs or psychiatric based programs that believe addiction is an incurable disease and must be “treated” with anti-depressants, though been around for ages, do not provide the highest success rate. The most effective type of rehab program is a non 12 step rehab facility.

A non 12 step drug rehab uses alternative methods which are proven to be effective in overcoming drug or alcohol addiction. They do not use group counseling or group therapy and provide an individualized type of setting. It is also nice to know that these programs offer cognitive behavioral therapy and a social education model which helps a person reintegrate back into society with job skills and life skills. Not to mention a non 12 step rehab is generally longer termed which is also very important for an effective drug rehab.

Remember that non traditional programs are always more effective than traditional rehabs. A non 12 step inpatient drug rehab is going to be the best type of program that either you or a loved one who finds themselves addicted to drugs and alcohol. Also the longer the program the better so make sure that the treatment facility provides long term drug rehabs.
